Queensland Walks launches the Queensland Walking Alliance

Queensland Walks launched the Queensland Walking Alliance on 6 May 2020

Queensland Walks hosted the first of a series of eight discussion forums that will focus on walking and walkability in Queensland. This work is part of the Action Plan for the Queensland Walking Strategy and aims to bring together the varied stakeholders that relate and interact with walking in Queensland through a formalised Queensland Walking Alliance.

The Heart Foundation were one of 35 organisations and individuals who participated in the online launch.
“We are delighted to continue our work with the Heart Foundation, Active Living and the Heart Foundation Walking program” says Anna Campbell, Executive Officer of Queensland Walks.
“Our collaborative efforts with the Heart Foundation locally encouraged the state government to commit to a walking strategy – and through the Queensland Walking Alliance we will be able to continue to argue the importance to prioritise walking and essential walking infrastructure for walkable communities” says Anna Campbell.

The Queensland Walking Alliance (QWA) commenced in May 2020 (after a short delay due to COVID-19) and will continue as a funded project until October 2021.

The aim of the Queensland Walking Alliance (QWA) is to get more people walking everyday by providing a central voice for walking (urban, regional and rural) with a focused approach to improving the walkability of Queensland.

The responsibility of the QWA is to commit to a healthier and more connected Queensland by encouraging and supporting better walking facilities and more walking every day.

If you would like to be involved in the QWA contact Queensland Walks: info@queenslandwalks.org.au or visit Queensland Walks.

Queensland Walks is grateful to the Queensland Government for funding this project as a part of the Queensland Walking Strategy.

Queensland Walks aims to:

  • Reinforce positive attitudes about walking
  • Encourage people to choose walking as an option for health, recreation and transport
  • Promote the vision of ‘making walking an easy choice for everyone, every day’
  • Work in partnership to prioritise walking.
